Trump calls Iran 'defenseless,' demands unconditional surrender

Jun 18, 2025, 16:06 GMT+1

President Donald Trump on Wednesday described Iran as “totally defenseless” and said he is still considering military action.

“Well, I don't know how much longer it's going to go on. They're totally defenseless. They have no air defense whatsoever. Totally captured. You know we've totally captured the air, right?” Trump told reporters.

“For 40 years they've been saying death to America, death to Israel, death to anybody else that they didn't like. They were bullies. They were schoolyard bullies. And now they're not bullies anymore. But we'll see what happens.”

“Look, nothing's finished until it's finished. You know, war is very complex,” he said.

Amnesty International called on both Iranian and Israeli authorities to uphold international humanitarian law and protect civilian lives as the conflict intensifies.

“As the number of deaths and injuries continue to rise, Amnesty International is urging both parties to comply with their obligations and ensure that civilians in both countries do not further pay the price of reckless military action,” said Agnès Callamard, the group’s Secretary General.

Continued escalation risks “devastating and far-reaching consequences for civilians across the region and beyond,” she warned.

Iran rejects Trump’s White House visit remark, warns of retaliation

Jun 18, 2025, 15:49 GMT+1

Iran’s UN mission in New York rejected President Donald Trump’s statement that Iranian officials proposed a visit to the White House.

“No Iranian official has ever asked to grovel at the gates of the White House,” the mission said in a post on X and condemned what it called Trump’s “cowardly threat” to target Iran’s Supreme Leader.

It warned Iran would respond to any threat or action with reciprocal measures.
